Ingrid Katz

Dr. Ingrid T. Katz, MD, MHS, is a nationally recognized physician-scientist and global health leader currently serving as Director of the Yale Institute for Global Health (YIGH) beginning January 1, 2026. She holds a joint appointment at the Yale School of Medicine and Yale School of Public Health, with a secondary appointment at the Yale School of Nursing.

Trained in infectious diseases, Dr. Katz has extensive global health experience spanning Southern Africa and Southeast Asia, with a sustained focus on improving care for people living with HIV. She spent 16 years on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and served as an associate physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. For five years, she was Associate Faculty Director at the Harvard Global Health Institute, where she co-led institutional responses to major global health threats, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the health impacts of climate change.

Dr. Katz’s research centers on developing sustainable, evidence-based interventions to improve engagement in care among highly vulnerable populations. She has maintained continuous National Institutes of Health funding for nearly 15 years and long-standing partnerships with the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand. Her work has been recognized by UNAIDS, including an invitation to join the Global Council on Inequality, AIDS, and Pandemics.

A committed mentor and leader, Dr. Katz helped establish and fundraise over $1 million for the LEAD Fellowship supporting women global health leaders from low- and middle-income countries. She currently serves on the executive board of Harvard’s Center for AIDS Research and has received multiple awards for excellence in mentoring and leadership.

Dr. Katz earned her bachelor’s degree from Amherst College, a Master of Health Science from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and her MD from the University of California, San Francisco.
